Brinkenberg Vineyards · Kecel, Hungary
We are Patrick and Herbert. In Kecel, we are bringing a three-hectare vineyard back into shape. For now, we select two wines with winemaker Gábor Berger and arrange our first direct shipment from Kecel to the Netherlands ourselves.
The first selection
We didn’t want an endless range. We chose two bottles we’re happy to put on our own table.

Who makes the wine
We’re learning about the land and winemaking for ourselves. For the wines currently available in our shop, we work with Gábor Berger, a qualified head winemaker from the third generation of an award-winning winemaking family.
He grew up amongst the vines and in his father’s cellar. Berger Vin oversees the entire process, from its own vineyards to the wine in the bottle.
The 2023 medals
The winery won six gold and seven silver medals at the 2023 Hajós-Bajai wine competition. The red wine we selected for De Overloper has won multiple awards for the 2022 and 2023 vintages.

Patrick & Herbert in Kecel
We are Patrick and Herbert. We bought a house in Kecel with a three-hectare vineyard, not because we already knew how to make wine, but because we wanted to build something of our own.
Since then, we’ve been getting to know the region season by season. Karcsi is teaching us to understand the vines, and Gábor Berger makes the wines that are now available in our shop. Our next step is the first direct import: we select the wines in Kecel and bring them directly to the Netherlands.
Meanwhile, we’re working towards the first bottle from our own harvest. It’s not some polished success story. Just two blokes working together to create something special.
Brinkenberg Stories
Open a video and scroll through our story. From our first viewing to working with our winemaker. We tell the story in two languages: Herbert in English and Patrick in Dutch.
Chapter 01
We explain how a €50,000 house, complete with a vineyard, marked the start of our completely different life.
Chapter 02
We bought our first machine and tried to prepare for work we were only beginning to understand.
Chapter 03
Karcsi used to work this land and is teaching us what the vines need, even when we barely understand each other.
Chapter 04
Our own wine takes time. That’s why we’re now working with Gábor Berger, a qualified head winemaker from a multi-award-winning family business just ten minutes from the vineyard.

Open original videoWhy Brinkenberg
A real vineyard. Good wine in the bottle. We show you how we are learning the land, who makes the wine and why we chose it.
The wines in our shop are made by Gábor Berger. His family winery won six gold and seven silver medals at the 2023 Hajós–Bajai wine competition.
He knows the land, the vines and the seasons. Without a shared language, we’re learning the trade step by step.
The wine passes through very few hands: we select it in Kecel, arrange the import ourselves and explain exactly where each bottle comes from.
A new country, a language barrier and enough setbacks to make us quit. We didn’t. We keep learning, solving problems and getting closer to making wine from our own vines.
